The Marian Anderson Historical Society, Inc. (MAHS) is dedicated to preserving and continuing the legacy of the lady from Philadelphia, Contralto Marian Anderson. The Society operates the Marian Anderson Residence Museum where diverse programs introduce Marian Anderson's contributions in the classical and opera arenas to multi-cultural audiences of all ages, with special emphasis on youth. These programs promote values of excellence, discipline, integrity and professionalism in the arts. In addition, the programs promote cultural awareness and appreciation for classical and operatic music. MAHS also serves as a career bridge in guiding and mentoring aspiring classical professionals. MAHS serve aspiring classical and opera singers pursuing professional careers in concerts, opera and stage. The MAHS provides services to outstanding classical music scholars and students. The services include: · Competition fees · Travel expenses · Wardrobe and styling assistance · Mentoring · Master classes and contacts. Contacts include: referrals for private lessons and performances. The selection of scholars is thru a networking process. Scholars are required to be seeking a professional career in the classical and opera arenas. A series of concerts are held in various venues throughout the City of Philadelphia and on many occasions national and abroad, where scholars perform to a wider multi-cultural audience. These live performances give our scholars experience and also promote the MA Scholars program. The MA Scholars and youth benefit educationally from the Marian Anderson Historical residence which is filled with memorabilia, books, rare photos, audio and visual resources. The services provided to the scholars and the youth are educational, motivational and developmental.
