


Shareese Johnson has a beautiful soprano voice: unusually large, richly resonant, with great range and elegant tone quality. Shareese engages her audiences as she releases her passion for opera and masterfully reflects the meaning of the music she is singing. Ms. Johnson’s stage persona is magnetic and it draws the opera connoisseur, the first-time attendee, as well as the opera-resistant into her passionate web.
Shareese Johnson was awarded full scholarship to Petrie School of Music at Converse College in Spartanburg, South Carolina where she earned her Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance with Distinction in Performance.
Shareese Johnson’s performances have earned her reviews with descriptives such as spectacular, creamy, sensuous, powerful, sweet and perfect. Some of those performances were the title role of Suor Angelica with the Converse Opera Theatre in January. In 2006, she performed Marcellina in Le Nozze di Figaro with the Converse College Opera Theatre. Her appearances as Marschallin in Der Rosenkavalier, Agathe in Der Freischütz,Bess in Porgy and Bess and The Sorceress in Dido and Aeneas with the Converse Opera Theatre drew unprecedented audiences. She also appeared as Countessa Almaviva in Le Nozze di Figaro, Belinda in Dido and Aeneas, and Hansel in Hansel und Gretel at Huntingdon College’s Opera Camp in Montgomery, Al during the summers of her high school years. She was a featured soloist in Converse College’s performance of Mozart’s Mass in C Minor. Ms. Johnson has also had the privilege of performing overseas in the Czech Republic, Austria, and England with the University of Miami in Salzburg summer program, and the celebrated Converse College Singers and Players. Shareese Johnson has also given repeat solo concerts in Alabama and South Carolina. Her successes in Alabama will take her back in July, 2008 to conduct masterclasses for voice students of Gene Anne Gifford.
The greatest honor of Shareese Johnson’s young career was performing at the unveiling of Marian Anderson statue on the campus of Converse College in South Carolina and at the Benjamin Franklin Institute in Philadelphia 2006.
Currently, Shareese is playing the role of Sarah in Steven Flahtery’s Ragtime with the Saltnote Stageworks Festival in Baltimore, Maryland. In the fall of 2008, Shareese will continue studying vocal performance at the Jacobs School of Music of Indiana University’s where she will study with soprano Carol Vaness.
