Sequina DuBose

Distinguished from others by an unrelenting passion, Sequina DuBose is a performer driven by a willingness to persevere. As a young girl growing up in Detroit, Michigan, Sequina DuBose displayed a unique talent and affinity for music at an early age. She honed her skills as a young adult in Baltimore, Maryland where, under the tutelage of Betty Ridgeway and the late Dr. Nathan Carter, she blossomed, and emerges today, a stunning performer most noted for her engaging stage presence and charming musical style.

Sequina DuBose’s repertoire displays her versatility in a variety of comic and dramatic roles. Most recently, she made her debut as the Countess in Mozart’s, The Marriage of Figaro, with Manhattan School of Music Opera Studio. She has also performed with the Philadelphia Opera Company in their production of Gershwin’s, Porgy and Bess, and as Pamina in Mozart’s, The Magic Flute, with the George Mason Opera Theater. She has performed as Nanetta in Verdi’s, Falstaff, with the Martina Arroyo Foundation’s “Prelude to Performance” role study program in New York City and will debut the role of Clorinda in Rossini's La Cenerentola as a Resident Young Artist with Opera Memphis in spring of 2008. Additional roles include Rosina in Rossini’s, The Barber of Seville, and Susanna in Mozart’s, The Marriage of Figaro.

Recognized for her talent and skill, Ms. DuBose has received 1st place in several competitions including the Virginia District NATS Competition and the Leontyne Price Vocal Arts Competition for Emerging Artists, as well as, being named a Marian Anderson Scholar. She also recently became a finalist in the Annapolis Opera Vocal Competition in Annapolis, Maryland and is the 2007 first place winner in the Lansing Matinee Musicale's Richardson Award for Voice Competition. On the concert stage, she has performed and traveled throughout the Czech Republic, Bermuda, Martinique, and Paris. Most notably, she has appeared as a soloist in the world premiere performance and recording of Wynton Marsalis’, All Rise, with the Morgan State Choir, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra and the New York Philharmonic.

Ms. DuBose currently resides in New York where she studies voice with Joan Patenaude-Yarnell, and pursues a Professional Studies Certificate in vocal performance at The Manhattan School of Music.
